12138-09-9 Usage

Description

Tungsten sulfide (WS2) is a chemical compound that exists naturally in the form of a rare mineral called tungstenite. It is a grayish-black solid with a melting point above 1480°C and can lubricate at temperatures above 2400°F (1316°C). Tungsten sulfide is attacked by fluorine and hot sulfuric and hydrogen fluoride. It possesses a pseudo 2-dimensional structure and a narrow indirect bandgap of 1.35 eV, while the monolayer film has a direct bandgap of 2.1 eV.
Used in Petrochemical Industry:
Tungsten sulfide is used as a desulfurization catalyst and as a component of catalysts for hydrotreating of crude oil, hydrodesulfurization, and hydrodenitrification reactions.
Used in Lubrication Applications:
Tungsten sulfide is used as a solid lubricant that can withstand high temperatures and as a dry lubricant for fasteners, bearings, and molds under the brand name Dicronite. It is also used as a spray lubricant.
Used in Electrochemical Devices:
Tungsten sulfide is used as solid-state secondary lithium battery cathodes and other electrochemical devices.
Used in Semiconductor Materials and Inorganic Nanotubes:
Tungsten sulfide finds application in semiconductor materials, inorganic nanotubes, and as reinforcing agents better than carbon nanotubes.
Used in Coatings and Adhesives:
The addition of tungsten sulfide to epoxy resin improves adhesion, fracture toughness, and strain energy release rate.
Used in Photodetectors and Multi-Junction Photovoltaics:
Due to its high on/off ratio in field-effect transistors, controllable spin and valley polarisation, strong geometrical confinement of excitons, and tunable photoluminescence, WS2 could lead to increased interest in areas such as photodetectors and multi-junction photovoltaics.
Used in Catalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reactions (HERs):
Few-layer tungsten disulfide nanosheets have potential applications in electrodes and energy storage devices, supercapacitors, and photoelectrochemical cells as a catalyst for hydrogen evolution reactions.
Used in Electromagnetic Pollution Protection:
With tunable electromagnetic absorption, tungsten disulfide has practical applications against electromagnetic pollution.
Used in Photothermal Therapy for Cancer Treatment:
WS2 is a great potential candidate in photothermal therapy for the ablation of cancer cells when NIR light is absorbed and converted into heat.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 12138-09-9 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,1,3 and 8 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12138-09:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*1)+(4*3)+(3*8)+(2*0)+(1*9)=69
69 % 10 = 9
So 12138-09-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
