Aromatic nucleophilic substitution of chlorine atoms in 4,5,6,7-tetrachloro-1,1,3,3-tetrafluoro-1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran 1 by fluorines and of fluorine atoms in octafluoro-1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran 2 by chlorines has been investigated.In both cases mixtures of perhalo-1,3-dihydroisobenzofurans C8ClnF8-nO, where n = 0-4, have been obtained.Positions of the aromatic ring halogens of the products have been assigned by the comparison of experimental and calculated 19F and 13C chemical shifts.The Cl->F and F->Cl exchange pathways have been elucidated.
