The reaction of (cis-3-tridecenyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide with the keto aldehyde 2-(3-oxopropyl)-2-ethyl-1,3-dioxolane protected at the keto group gave 2-(cis-3,cis-6-hexadecadienyl)-2-ethyl-1,3-dioxolane.The latter was converted by acid hydrolysis into cis-6,cis-9-nonadecadien-3-one, which is a component of the sex pheromone of the grape fly Peribatodes (= Boarmia) rhomboidaria Schiff.
