1304-39-8 Usage

Description

Barium selenide, with the molecular formula BaSe and a molecular weight of 216.2956 g/mol, is a white crystalline powder. It has a melting point of 1782°C and a density of 5.02 g/cm3. Barium selenide is moisture sensitive and must be handled under inert conditions. It cannot be prepared using an aqueous method of precipitation due to its reactivity with water. BARIUM SELENIDE can be synthesized by reacting the oxide or carbonate with selenium or by reducing the selenate with hydrogen gas. Barium selenide and strontium selenide both exhibit a simple cubic structure, with cube edges equal to 3.308 ? and 3.117 ?, respectively.

Uses

Used in Photocells and Semiconductors:
Barium selenide is utilized as a key component in photocells and semiconductors due to its unique properties. It is particularly effective in constructing photocells that measure the solar irradiance of the Sun at various points on the globe. This is because other photocell elements, such as selenium, tend to decline in output and saturate under the intense radiance of the Sun. In contrast, barium selenide remains quasi-linear and can be used to measure intensity from 2000 ? to 7200 ? using a double monochrometer as a spectrum analyzer.
As a portable unit, barium selenide-based photocells use narrowband (20–50 ? half-width) interference glass filters in 14 steps as a spectrum analyzer over the range of 3100 ? to 16,300 ?, although the recording is manual. The field of view for these photocells is less than 3° of the solar irradiance over the face of the Sun.
Barium selenide is available commercially as a sputtering target or in limited quantities as a powder, making it a valuable material for various applications in the electronics and semiconductor industries. Its ability to maintain a consistent output under intense solar radiance and its compatibility with other materials make it an essential component in the development of advanced photocells and semiconductor devices.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 1304-39-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 1,3,0 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 1304-39:
(6*1)+(5*3)+(4*0)+(3*4)+(2*3)+(1*9)=48
48 % 10 = 8
So 1304-39-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
