Description

Olmesartan, also known as Olmesartan medoxomil, is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist used in the treatment of hypertension. It belongs to a class of drugs called AT1 receptor blockers, which work by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone responsible for narrowing blood vessels. This action results in lower blood pressure and reduced strain on the heart. Olmesartan is rapidly and completely bioactivated by ester hydrolysis during absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, and once converted to the active form, virtually no further metabolism occurs.

Olmesartan is used as an anti-hypertensive agent for the management of hypertension. It functions as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, which helps in widening blood vessels and reducing blood pressure. The drug is also used in combination with other medications, such as the calcium channel blocker amlodipine, to enhance its effectiveness in treating high blood pressure.
