25154-52-3 Usage

Description

Nonylphenol, also known as p-Nonylphenol, is a mixture of isomeric monoalkyl phenols, predominantly p-substituted. It is a thick, yellowish liquid with a slight phenolic odor and is insoluble in water. Nonylphenol is combustible and may irritate the skin. It is used in the manufacture of oil additives, surfactants, fungicide preparations, and plastics and rubber.

Uses

Used in Plastic Industry:
Nonylphenol is used as additives in the plastic industry, particularly in polypropylene. It serves as hydrophilic surface modifiers and stabilizers during the crystallization of polypropylene to enhance their mechanical properties.
Nonylphenol is used as an antioxidant, antistatic agent, and plasticizer in polymers, and as a stabilizer in plastic food packaging materials.
Used in Lubricating Oil Additives:
Nonylphenol is used in the preparation of lubricating oil additives, contributing to the enhancement of their performance and efficiency.
Used in Resins and Plasticizers:
Nonylphenol is utilized in the production of resins and plasticizers, which are essential components in the manufacturing of various industrial products.
Used in Surface Active Agents:
Nonylphenol is employed in the formulation of surface active agents, which are crucial in the production of detergents, emulsifiers, and other related products.
Used in Fungicide Preparations:
Nonylphenol is also used in the preparation of fungicide formulations, providing protection against fungal infections in various applications.

Air & Water Reactions

Insoluble in water.

Reactivity Profile

Nonylphenol behaves as a very weak organic acid. Incompatible with strong reducing substances such as hydrides, nitrides, alkali metals, and sulfides. Flammable gas (H2) is often generated, and the heat of the reaction may ignite the gas. Likely to react exothermically with concentrated sulfuric acid and nitric acid.

Health Hazard

Moderately toxic if swallowed. Severely irritating to skin and eyes.

Fire Hazard

Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Some are oxidizers and may ignite combustibles (wood, paper, oil, clothing, etc.). Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Containers may explode when heated.

Chemical Reactivity

Reactivity with Water: No reaction; Reactivity with Common Materials: No reaction; Stability During Transport: Stable; Neutralizing Agents for Acids and Caustics: Not pertinent; Polymerization: Not pertinent; Inhibitor of Polymerization: Not pertinent.

Safety Profile

Moderately toxic by ingestion andskin contact. A severe skin and eye irritant. Combustiblewhen exposed to heat or flame. When heated todecomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 25154-52-3 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 2,5,1,5 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 25154-52:
(7*2)+(6*5)+(5*1)+(4*5)+(3*4)+(2*5)+(1*2)=93
93 % 10 = 3
So 25154-52-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
