Description
Solvent Brown 5 is a dark brown dye that is soluble in ethanol, yielding a yellow-brown color. It also dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid, turning deep green to light black, and upon dilution, it becomes blue-black with the formation of a dark brown precipitate. The dye alcohol solution remains unchanged when concentrated hydrochloric acid is added, but it turns blue-light red when 5% sodium hydroxide solution is added. Solvent Brown 5 is characterized by its light fastness, heat resistance up to 170°C, and sublimation properties. It is insoluble in water and has good solubility in sodium carbonate (5%) and hydrochloric acid (5%).
