3654-96-4 Usage
General Description
L-[35S]Methionine is a radioactive form of the essential amino acid methionine, labeled with the isotope sulfur-35. It is commonly used in molecular biology and biochemistry research to investigate protein synthesis, labeling specific proteins for in vivo and in vitro studies. By incorporating the radioactive sulfur into newly synthesized proteins, researchers can track protein turnover, study protein-protein interactions, and analyze protein localization within cells. L-[35S]Methionine is also used in radiolabeling assays to detect protein synthesis and degradation, as well as in autoradiography to visualize proteins on gels or membranes. Despite its radioactive nature, L-[35S]Methionine can be handled safely with proper precautions and waste management protocols.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 3654-96-4 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,6,5 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3654-96:
(6*3)+(5*6)+(4*5)+(3*4)+(2*9)+(1*6)=104
104 % 10 = 4
So 3654-96-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Biotechnological production of high specific activity L-35S-cysteine and L-35S-methionine by using a diploid yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae

, p. 571 - 576 (2007/10/02)
High specific activity L-35S-cysteine and L-35S-methionine were synthesised by using a wild type diploid strain of baker's yeast- Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yeast cells were grown in a sulphur depleted synthetic medium in which Na235SO4 (50 mCi/ml) was supplemented as the sole sulphur source. The level of incorporation was 60% on an average. The protein hydrolysate of the cultured cells was subjected to paper and column chromatographic separations to get the individual L-35S-aminoacids. The radiochemical yields of cysteine and methionine were 6-7% and 18-20% respectively. The radiochemical purity of the products was >95%. The highest specific activity for the products obtained by employing this method was 1100 Ci/mmole from the starting material, Na235SO4, with a specific activity of 1350 Ci/mmole.
