Rubidium carbonate is used as a raw material for the preparation of special types of glass. It enhances the stability and durability of the glass, reducing its conductivity and making it suitable for specific applications.
Used in Fiber Optics:
In the fiber optics industry, rubidium carbonate is utilized to improve the performance and durability of optical fibers, ensuring efficient transmission of light signals over long distances.
Used in the Preparation of Rubidium Metal and Salts:
Rubidium carbonate serves as a crucial raw material for the production of rubidium metal and various rubidium salts, which find applications in different fields, including electronics and chemical industries.
Used in High Energy Density Micro Cells:
Rubidium carbonate is employed in the manufacturing of high energy density micro cells, which are essential components in various electronic devices and systems.
Used in Crystal Scintillation Counters:
It is also used in the production of crystal scintillation counters, which are vital in detecting and measuring ionizing radiation in scientific and medical applications.
Used in Catalyst Preparation:
Rubidium carbonate is a component of a catalyst used in the preparation of short-chain alcohols from feed gas, contributing to the chemical industry's production processes.

Preparation

Rubidium carbonate is an intermediate in recovery of rubidium from lepidolite. The mineral, on prolonged heating with concentrated sulfuric acid, converts to alums. The mixed alum solution, on treatment with ammonia or potassium carbonate, forms carbonates of potassium, rubidium and cesium. Rubidium carbonate is separated from other alkali metal carbonates by fractional crystallization (see Rubidium) The carbonate salt also may be obtained by passing carbon dioxide through a solution of rubidium hydroxide in a fluorocarbon or nickel container. The solution is evaporated to yield the product carbonate. Also, the salt may be prepared by adding ammonium carbonate to a solution of rubidium hydroxide. The solution is evaporated to dryness to expel ammonia.

Hazard

Strong irritant to tissue.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 584-09-8 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 5,8 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 584-09:
(5*5)+(4*8)+(3*4)+(2*0)+(1*9)=78
78 % 10 = 8
So 584-09-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
