Description

Platycodin D is a natural compound isolated from the seeds of Platycodon grandiflorum, a plant belonging to the Campanulaceae family. It is a saponin glycoside with a unique chemical structure characterized by a triterpene aglycone core and a sugar moiety. Platycodin D exhibits various biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antitumor properties, making it a potential candidate for pharmaceutical applications.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Platycodin D is used as an antitumor agent for its ability to inhibit the proliferation of human gastric cancer cells and induce apoptosis. It has been found to modulate multiple signaling pathways involved in cancer cell growth and survival, leading to the suppression of tumor progression.
Platycodin D is also used as an anti-atherosclerotic agent due to its potential to prevent the development of atherosclerotic plaques, a major cause of cardiovascular diseases. Its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties contribute to the attenuation of atherosclerotic processes, making it a promising candidate for the treatment of atherosclerosis.
In addition to its direct therapeutic applications, Platycodin D can also be utilized in drug delivery systems to enhance the bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy of other drugs. Its unique chemical structure allows for the development of novel drug formulations, such as nanoparticles or liposomes, which can improve the delivery of Platycodin D and other therapeutic agents to target tissues.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 58479-68-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 5,8,4,7 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 6 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 58479-68:
(7*5)+(6*8)+(5*4)+(4*7)+(3*9)+(2*6)+(1*8)=178
178 % 10 = 8
So 58479-68-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Saponins from Roots of Platycodon grandiflorum. Part 2. Isolation and Structure of New Triterpene Glycosides

Ishii, Hiroshi,Tori, Kazuo,Tozyo, Takehiko,Yoshimura, Yohko

, p. 661 - 668 (1984)

Seventeen new saponins (2)-(18) have been isolated from the roots of Platycodon grandiflorum A.DC. and their structures determined by comparison of their 13C n.m.r. signals with those of known prosapogenins (19)-(26) and of the sugar chain at C-28 in platycodin-D (1).Eight of these saponins were found to have an O-acetyl group which migrated both readily and reversibly between the 2-O- and 3-O-positions of the rhamnose moiety in their sugar chain.
