Ultraviolet irradiation stimulates substitution of the halogen and SO2X group (were X = NH2, CH3) by the selenocyanate ion in halogen derivatives of the benzene, naphtalene, pyridine, and pyrimidine series containig a donating group or a donating and accepting group. Here aromatic selenocyanates and diaryl diselenides are formed. It was established that the selenocyanate ion does not quench the fluorescence of halogenoanilines, and this shows that the singlet excited is not involved in these processes.
