Description
2'-(4-METHYLUMBELLIFERYL)-ALPHA-D-N-ACETYLNEURAMINIC ACID SODIUM SALT, also known as 4-Methylumbelliferyl-N-acetyl-α-D-neuraminic acid, is a fluorogenic substrate of neuraminidases. It is an off-white to yellow solid that, when cleaved by neuraminidases, releases the fluorescence moiety 4-methylumbelliferyl (4-MU). The fluorescence of 4-MU is pH-dependent, with excitation maxima at 320 and 360 nm and an emission maximum ranging from 445 to 455 nm.
