Description
(3a,5b,6b,7a,12a)-3,6,7,12-tetrahydroxy-Cholan-24-oic acid, also known as cholic acid, is a bile acid that is produced in the liver and is a primary component of bile. It is characterized by its unique molecular structure with four hydroxyl groups at positions 3, 6, 7, and 12, and a carboxylic acid group at position 24. This structure allows cholic acid to play a crucial role in digestion and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins in the intestines.
Uses
Used in Digestive Health:
Cholic acid is used as a digestive aid for promoting the emulsification and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins in the intestines. Its amphipathic nature allows it to form micelles, which facilitate the transport of dietary fats through the digestive system.
Used in Medications for Liver and Gallbladder Disorders:
Cholic acid is used as an ingredient in some medications to treat certain liver and gallbladder disorders. Its ability to regulate cholesterol synthesis and uptake helps in managing these conditions.
Used in Metabolic Regulation:
Cholic acid acts as a signaling molecule that regulates various metabolic processes, including cholesterol synthesis and uptake. This makes it an important compound for maintaining overall metabolic health.
Used in Research:
Cholic acid is also used in research settings to study the role of bile acids in digestion, absorption, and metabolic regulation. Its unique structure and function make it a valuable tool for understanding the complex processes involved in these biological systems.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 80875-93-0 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 8,0,8,7 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 80875-93:
(7*8)+(6*0)+(5*8)+(4*7)+(3*5)+(2*9)+(1*3)=160
160 % 10 = 0
So 80875-93-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

POLYHYDROXYLATED BILE ACIDS FOR TREATMENT OF BILIARY DISORDERS
-
, (2011/04/14)
The invention provides, in part, polyhydroxylated bile acids for treating biliary disorders, for example, biliary disorders arising out of cholestasis or portal hypertesion. The invention also provides, in part, polyhydroxylated bile acids for stimulating bile flow. New compounds 2α,3α,7α,12α-tetrahydroxy-5β-cholanoic acid and 3α,4α,7α,12α-tetrahydroxy-5β-cholanoic acid are disclosed, uses thereof and synthesis thereof.
Identification of 3,6,7,12-tetrahydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acids in human biologic fluids
Yoshii, Michiko,Kihira, Kenji,Shoda, Junichi,Osuga, Toshiaki,Hoshita, Takahiko
, p. 512 - 515 (2007/10/02)
Unusual bile acids, 3α,6α,7α,12α-, 3α,6β,7β,12α-, and 3α,6β,7β,12α-tetrahydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acids, were identified in all amniotic fluid (four samples) and urine (six samples) from adult patients with cholestalic liver disease by gas-liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. For the certain identification of these bile acids in the biologic samples, the chemical syntheses of 3α,6β,7α,12α- and 3 α,6β,7β,12α-tetrahydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acids were conducted.
