834-28-6 Usage
Description
Phenformin hydrochloride is an orally administered biguanide derivative that has the potential to lower blood glucose concentrations in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. It improves insulin sensitivity and decreases insulin resistance by inhibiting complex 1 of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and inducing AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)-dependent signaling. However, it has been withdrawn from clinical use due to its association with inducing lactic acidosis when not metabolized sufficiently.
Used in Anti-diabetic Therapy:
Phenformin hydrochloride is used as an anti-diabetic drug from the biguanide class for improving insulin sensitivity and decreasing insulin resistance in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
Used in Erectile Dysfunction Therapy:
Phenformin hydrochloride is used as a therapeutic agent for treating erectile dysfunction.
Used in Anticancer Applications:
Phenformin hydrochloride is used as an anticancer agent for inhibiting the growth of breast cancer cell xenografts in mice through AMPK activation.
Air & Water Reactions
Water soluble.
Reactivity Profile
Phenformin hydrochloride gives weakly acidic aqueous solutions. May react with strong oxidizing agents.
Fire Hazard
Flash point data for Phenformin hydrochloride are not available; however, Phenformin hydrochloride is probably combustible.
Safety Profile
Poison by intraperitoneal and intravenous routes. Moderately toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of HCl and NOx.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 834-28-6 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 8,3 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 834-28:
(5*8)+(4*3)+(3*4)+(2*2)+(1*8)=76
76 % 10 = 6
So 834-28-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
