General Description

3,4-Dimethylheptane is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C9H20. It is a saturated hydrocarbon belonging to the alkane family, with a straight chain of seven carbon atoms and two methyl groups attached at the 3rd and 4th positions. This colorless liquid is primarily used as a solvent and as a part of the fuel mixture for internal combustion engines. Due to its low reactivity and stability, 3,4-dimethylheptane is also used as a reference compound in chemical analysis and as a standard in gas chromatography. It has a boiling point of 118°C and is considered to be relatively non-toxic, with no known harmful effects on human health or the environment when handled and used properly.
