XENON TETRAFLUORIDE Uses

Xenon tetrafluoride (CAS NO.13709-61-0) is a silicone rubber decomposition agent, used for studying trace metal impurities. It reacts with the silicone matrix to form simple gaseous products, leaving behind a residue containing the metal impurities.

XENON TETRAFLUORIDE Safety Profile

Reacts with WATER to form a very shock-sensitive explosive. May explode on contact with acetone; aluminum; pentacarbonyliron; styrene; polyethylene; lubricants; paper; sawdust; wool or other combustible materials. Vigorous reaction with ethanol, potassium iodate, potassium permanganate. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of F. See also FLUORIDES and XENON TRIOXIDE.
