[Application] Potassium cyanate can be used in organic synthesis, making hypnotics, herbicides, etc.
 
[Preparation] ErnerW uses potassium carbonate and urea as raw materials and sulfoxide or sulfone as solvent to synthesize potassium cyanate. In ErnerW's patent example, 5mol of potassium carbonate and 13mol of urea are dissolved in 4.0 methyl ethyl sulfoxide, the reaction is heated and stirred with nitrogen, the reaction temperature rises to 180°C within 1 hour, and there is ammonia and 24.0c478 water vapor.
