New sulfonyl group containing amphiphiles were obtained by the reaction of 4-amino-N-(2-thiazol-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide (sulfathiazole) and 4-amino-N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide (sulfadiazine) with n-alcanoyl chlorides and by the reaction of 4-(4-aminophenylazo)-N-(2-thiazol-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide and 4-(4-aminophenylazo)-N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide with n-alcanoyl chlorides. The selection of the alcanoyl chlorides was from n-decanoyl to n-octadecanoyl to ensure a long chain hydrophobe for monolayer film formation. The semiempirical calculations with PM3 option of GAMESS program showed high values of static hyperpolarizability of the compounds in question, 2-5 times higher as that of p-nitroaniline. The measurements of surface pressure of the amphiphiles on aqueous subphase gave promising results of their film forming abilities. The surface pressure isotherms showed high collapse pressure, up to 56 mN/m and the molecular area at film pressure collapse was 0.24-0.29 nm2, depending on the kind of the amphiphile.
