The reactions of the title ligands with tin(IV) and titanium(IV) chlorides at -10 deg in petroleum ether (40-60 deg C) in 1:1 molar ratio give complexes of rearranged silanamines as evidenced by IR and PMR spectral data as well as base exchange reactions.Whereas, 1-chloro-1,1-diethoxy/di-n-propoxy-N-(phenyl/o-chlorophenyl)silanamines afford complexes of composition RSi(NHR')3.2MCl4, those obtained from 1-chloro-1,1-diethoxy/di-n-propoxy-N-(p-methylphenyl/n-butyl)silanamines have the composition Si(NHR')4.3MCl4 (where R = OC2H5 or OC3H7-n; R' = C6H5, C6H4Cl(o), C6H4CH3(p) or C4H9(n); M = Ti or Sn).The formation of tetrakis(N-n-butyl/p-methylphenyl)silanamines is a novel observation.Further, filtrates from these reactions after keeping for 48 hr at room temperature invariably precipitate out complexes of the type R2Si(NHR')2.2MCl4 (ca. 20percent yield) as evidenced by their IR and PMR data. The isolation of these complexes may represent preferential displacement of chloro groups from original ligands as the initial reaction.
