117-83-9 Usage
Description
BIS(2-N-BUTOXYETHYL)PHTHALATE, also known as dibutoxyethyl phthalate (DBEP), is a phthalate ester derived from the formal condensation of both carboxy groups of phthalic acid with two molecules of 2-butoxyethanol. It is a colorless liquid with a density of 1.063 and is soluble in organic solvents while being fairly insoluble in water.
Uses
Used in Plastic Industry:
BIS(2-N-BUTOXYETHYL)PHTHALATE is used as a plasticizer for various applications, including the enhancement of flexibility, workability, and durability of materials.
BIS(2-N-BUTOXYETHYL)PHTHALATE is used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to improve its flexibility, workability, and durability. The addition of this plasticizer allows PVC to be more easily processed and molded into various shapes and forms.
BIS(2-N-BUTOXYETHYL)PHTHALATE is also used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) to enhance its properties, making it more suitable for a wide range of applications, such as adhesives, coatings, and films.
Production Methods
DBEP is formed by the esterification of glycol monobutyl
ether with phthalic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst
(sulfuric acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid) or noncatalytically
at high temperature.
Safety Profile
Mildly toxic by ingestion. Whenheated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke andirritating fumes.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 117-83-9 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 1,1 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 117-83:
(5*1)+(4*1)+(3*7)+(2*8)+(1*3)=49
49 % 10 = 9
So 117-83-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
