12069-94-2 Usage

Description

Niobium carbide (NbC) is an extremely hard refractory material known for its high hardness, metallic luster, and cubic crystal structure. It belongs to the sodium chloride type cubic crystal system and possesses a relative density of 8.47, a lattice constant of 0.447 nm, and a melting point of 2300°C. With a microhardness greater than 235 GPa, it is harder than corundum and has an elastic modulus of 338,000 N/mm2. Niobium carbide also exhibits a thermal expansion coefficient of 6.65×10??/K, a thermal conductivity of 14 W/(m·K), a heat of formation of -140.7 kJ/mol, and a specific heat capacity of 36.8 J/(mol·K). It has a resistivity of 35 μΩ·cm and is insoluble in water and all acids except a mixture of nitric acid and hydrogen fluoride. Niobium carbide is stable at temperatures between 1000-1100°C and rapidly oxidizes to niobium pentoxide at temperatures above 1100°C. It is also easy to melt in titanium carbide, zirconium carbide, tungsten carbide, and other compounds, forming an isomorphous solid solution mixture.

Uses

1. Machining Applications:
Niobium carbide is used as a material for hard-tipped tools due to its exceptional hardness and wear resistance. This makes it suitable for creating tools that can withstand high levels of abrasion and maintain their cutting edge for extended periods.
2. Wear Protection:
Niobium carbide is used as a wear protection material in various applications, such as in the manufacturing of special steels, where its hardness and resistance to wear contribute to the longevity and performance of the materials.
3. Nuclear Reactor Coatings:
Niobium carbide is used as a refractory coating in nuclear reactors, where its high melting point, stability at high temperatures, and resistance to oxidation make it an ideal choice for protecting graphite components from the harsh conditions within the reactor.
4. Cutting Tool Bits:
Niobium carbide, along with other extremely hard refractory materials like TiC, ZrC, and VC, is commercially used in tool bits for cutting tools. Its hardness and wear resistance make it an excellent choice for creating durable and efficient cutting tools.

Flammability and Explosibility

Nonflammable

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 12069-94-2 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,0,6 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12069-94:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*0)+(4*6)+(3*9)+(2*9)+(1*4)=92
92 % 10 = 2
So 12069-94-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
