Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:Vildagliptin is used as an antidiabetic medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It works by inhibiting the DPP-IV enzyme, which in turn prolongs the action of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This leads to an increased insulin release and decreased glucagon secretion, resulting in improved glycemic control and reduced blood glucose levels.
