Treatment of N,N-dialkyl-2-hydryltetrafluoropropanamide, readily available from hexafluoropropene and a secondary amine, with dibutylboryl triflate and ethyldiisopropylamine gave isomerically pure tetrafluoropropanamide boron enolate, which was allowed to react with various aldehydes at -10 deg C to afford the corresponding threo-2-fluoro-2-trifluoromethyl-3-hydroxy alkanamides in good yields.
