SYNTHESIS OF AZOMETHINES OF THE PYRAN SERIES

4-(5,6-Dihydro-4-methyl-2H-pyran-5-yloxy)benzylidene-4'-R-anilines were synthesized from 4-methyl-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran through 3,4-dibromo-4-methyltetrahydropyran, followed by alkylation with p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and condensation of the obtained 4-(5,6-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-pyran-5-yloxy)benzaldehyde with aromatic amines.The introduction of alkoxy groups at the para position of the aniline component in the synthesized azomethines leads to the appearance of a nematic mesophase.
