Reactions of Methyl 10,11-epoxyundecanoate with Isothiocyanates: Synthesis of Fatty 1,3-Oxazolidine-2-thiones.

The reaction of methyl 10,11-epoxyundecanoate (I) with p-fluoro-phenyl isothiocyanate in dimethylformamide (DMF) in the presence of lithium bromide (LiBr) as catalyst under refluxing conditions affords the respective N-p-fluorophenyl-1,3-oxazolidine-2-thione (I and 2-imino-1,3-oxathiolane (III) along with the unsubstituted 1,3-oxazolidine-2-thione (II) as a minor product.Similar treatment of I with allyl isothiocyanate also affords the respective N-allyl-1,3-oxazolidine-2-thione (VI) and 2-imino-1,3-oxathiolane (V) along with product II.The products have been characterized on the basis of spectral and microanalytical data.
