A few complexes of silver(I) nitrate and perchlorate with schiff bases derived from isonicotinoylhydrazide and various carbonyl compounds such as 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, (INHSAL), 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde (INHHNAL), 2-hydroxyacetophenone (INHHAP), furfural (INHF), cyclohexanone (INHCYH), benzaldehyde (INHBAL), 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (INHHBAL), 4-methylbenzaldehyde (INHMBAL), 4-methoxybenzaldehyde (INHMOBAL), 4-chlorobenzaldehyde (INHCBAL), 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (INHDMABAL) or 2-acetylfuran (INHAF) have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes are of the type where L = INHSAL, INHHNAL or INHHAP and where L = INHF, INHCYH, INHBAL,INHHBAL, INHMBAL, INHMOBAL, INHCBAL, INHDMABAL or INHAF (X = NO3 or ClO4 in both the cases). All the complexes are non-electrolytic in nature. The IR spectra of these complexes are indicative of coordination through ring nitrogen irrespective of the other coordination sites. The spectra show the monodentate mode of coordination for the nitrate and perchlorate groups.Thermal studies of the nitrato complexes show them to be stable up to 200 deg C above which they start decomposing.
