130885-09-5 Usage

Description

Perlite is a natural glass formed by volcanic action, which is a sodium potassium aluminosilicate with an amorphous structure. It has the unique physical characteristic of expanding to about 20 times its original volume when heated to temperatures within the softening range of 1400 to 2000 ℃. Expanded perlite can be either a fluffy, highly porous substance or a glassy-white particulate with low porosity, depending on the heating method used.

Uses

Used in Construction Industry:
Perlite is used as an aggregate for construction materials, such as abrasives, acoustical plaster and tile, charcoal barbecue base, cleaner base, concrete aggregates, filter aids, and refractory products. Its incorporation into construction materials accounts for about 70% of the domestic use of perlite.
Used in Horticulture:
Perlite is used as a soil amendment and fertilizer, providing aeration and improving soil structure for better water retention and root penetration.
Used in Industrial Applications:
Perlite is used as a filter aid, such as Harborlite 800, in multiple industrial applications including chemical processing, mineral and lubrication oil production, and biodiesel purification. It also enhances filtration performance in brewing, juices, wine, sugar syrups, edible vegetable, and fish oils.
Used as a Filler:
Perlite is used as a filler in numerous materials due to its lightweight and porous nature, providing insulation and reducing material costs.
Chemical Properties:
Perlite has a low crystalline silica content, with 16 samples collected from 19 deposits in 16 western states showing less than 2% silica in 15 samples and 3% in one sample. The crystalline silica content of typical expanded perlite ranged from 0 to 2%. The bulk material has a density between 3 and 20 lb/ft3.

Safety Profile

Slightly toxic by ingestion. A nuisance dust.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 130885-09-5 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 1,3,0,8,8 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 130885-09:
(8*1)+(7*3)+(6*0)+(5*8)+(4*8)+(3*5)+(2*0)+(1*9)=125
125 % 10 = 5
So 130885-09-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
