1310-61-8 Usage

Description

POTASSIUM HYDROSULFIDE is a chemical compound that contains potassium hydrosulfide in solution. It is characterized by a rotten egg-like odor and has a pH between 8.5-11.5. This transparent to dark green liquid is highly corrosive to the skin and eyes, and ingestion can cause severe burning and corrosion in the gastrointestinal tract. It is also known to form polysulfide when exposed to air and is hygroscopic, soluble in alcohol and water.

Uses

Used in Separation of Heavy Metals:
POTASSIUM HYDROSULFIDE is used as a separating agent for heavy metals due to its chemical properties. It aids in the process of separating and extracting heavy metals from various mixtures, making it a valuable tool in industries that deal with metal processing and purification.

Air & Water Reactions

Addition of water to hydrosulfide may drop the pH and allow copious quantities of hydrogen sulfide to be produced. Acid accelerates the H2S production.

Reactivity Profile

Inorganic sulfides are generally basic and therefore incompatible with acids. Many of these compounds are reducing agents and therefore react vigorously with oxidizing agents, including inorganic oxoacids, organic peroxides and epoxides. Simple salts of sulfides (such as sodium, potassium, and ammonium sulfide) react vigorously with acids to release hydrogen sulfide gas

Health Hazard

TOXIC; inhalation, ingestion or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.

Fire Hazard

Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Some are oxidizers and may ignite combustibles (wood, paper, oil, clothing, etc.). Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Containers may explode when heated.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 1310-61-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 1,3,1 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 6 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 1310-61:
(6*1)+(5*3)+(4*1)+(3*0)+(2*6)+(1*1)=38
38 % 10 = 8
So 1310-61-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
