Montmorillonite K10 clay catalyzed synthesis of β-enaminones containing 1,8-naphthyridine moiety

A simple, rapid and efficient protocol for the synthesis of β-enaminones (5,5-dimethyl-3-) [(3-aryl [1,8) naphthyridine-2-yl] amino]-2-cyclohexene-1-ones) 3 has been achieved by the reaction of 2-amino-3-ary!-1,8-naphthyridines 1 with dimedone (5,5-dimethyl-cyclohexa-1,3- dione) 2 in the presence of montmorillonite K10 clay under solvent-free conditions using microwave irradiation. The products are obtained in very good yields and in a state of high purity.
