Usage

Description

Eriocitrin is a flavonoid originally isolated from lemon peel that possesses antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activities. It is a disaccharide derivative consisting of eriodictyol substituted by a 6-O-(alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl moiety at position 7 via a glycosidic linkage. Eriocitrin inhibits lipid peroxidation and has been shown to enhance the effect of α-tocopherol on lipid peroxidation. It also acts as an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) and MAO-B. Eriocitrin is a solid chemical compound and is one of the main flavonoids in citrus limon byproduct dried powder (CBP) that exhibits antioxidant activity.

Uses

Used in Antioxidant Applications:
ERIOCITRIN is used as an antioxidant agent for its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation in cell-free assays and in rat plasma. It enhances the effect of α-tocopherol on lipid peroxidation and prevents acute exercise-induced increases in various oxidative stress markers in rat liver.
