SYNTHESIS OF 4-HYDROXY-2,5-CYCLOHEXADIEN-1-ONES WITH VARIOUS ISOPRENOID SUBSTITUENTS

4-Hydroxy-2,3,5-trimethyl-4-(5-hydroxy-3-methyl-3-penten-1-ynyl)-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one and 4-hydroxy-2,3,5-trimethyl-4-(3-hydroxy-3-methyl-4-penten-1-ynyl)-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one were obtained by the Grignard reaction. 4-Hydroxy-2,3,5-trimethyl-(3,7-dimethyl-7-oxo-3-octen-1-ynyl)-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one was synthesized by growth of the side chain with 2-methoxypropene, and the intermediate mixed acetal was isolated and characterized. 4-Hydroxy-2,3,5-trimethyl-4-(3,7-dimethyl-8-ethoxycarbonyl-3,5,7-octatrien-1-ynyl)-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one was obtained by the condensation of 2,3,5-trimethyl-1,1-ethylenedioxy-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one with ethyl 3,7-dimethyl-2,4,6-nonatrien-8-yn-1-oate in the presence of butyllithium.
