Complexes of o-hydroxy acetophenone semicarbazone with some bivalent metal ions

Complexes of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and UO2 with o-hydroxy acetophenone semicarbazone (HASc)have been prepared and characterized on the basis of analytical, spectrophotometric, infrared and magnetic moment data.Isolation of solid complexes and physical measurements revealed the existence of mono- and bis-ligand complexes.Spectrophotometric results suggested the possibility of using this ligand for the microdetermination of metal ions in solutions.The apparent formation constants of the complexes have been determined.The stability order was found to be Cu(II) > Co(II) > Ni(II) > UO2(II).The electronic spectra of the solid complexes in dimethylformamide indicated that the mono-ligand Cu and Ni complexes have planar structures, whereas the 1:1 Co complex has a tetrahedral structure.The bis-ligand Cu, Co, Ni and Mn complexes have octahedral structures.
