CERIVASTATIN SODIUM, also known as Baycol or Cholstat, is a synthetic HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. It was formerly used to lower cholesterol levels and prevent cardiovascular disease. However, it was withdrawn from the market worldwide in 2001 due to reports of severe muscle toxicity.
