Usage

Description

Oprelvekin, also known as Neumega, is a recombinant human interleukin-11 (IL-11) expressed in a recombinant strain of E. coli as a thioredoxin and/or rhIL-11 fusion protein. It is a hematopoietic stimulant used to prevent severe thrombocytopenia and reduce the need for platelet transfusions after myelosuppressive chemotherapy in patients with nonmyeloid malignancies who are at high risk for severe thrombocytopenia. However, it can cause adverse reactions such as edema, neutropenic fever, headache, nausea and/or vomiting, dyspnea, and tachycardia, requiring close patient monitoring. Oprelvekin is supplied as a lyophilized powder for reconstitution, with excipients including glycine and phosphate buffer components, and has a shelf life of 24 months when stored at 2°C to 8°C.

Uses
