15191-85-2 Usage

Description

Beryllium Silicate, also known as Phenacite, is a mineral that is found in high-temperature pegmatite veins and is associated with quartz, chrysoberyl, and topaz. It has a unique structure consisting of a three-dimensional network of corner-linked, slightly distorted BeO4 and fairly regular SiO4 tetrahedra. The lattice of these materials consists of SiO4 and BeO4 tetrahedra, which are bound to each other and form chains oriented along the principal crystallographic axis C3. The chains form voids in the form of wide channels, which are approximately 4.5 ? in diameter.

Uses

Used in Optical Applications:
Beryllium Silicate is used as an optical material for its exceptional optical properties. The wide channels in its structure allow for the transmission of light, making it suitable for use in lenses, prisms, and other optical components.
Used in Electronics Industry:
Beryllium Silicate is used as a component in the electronics industry for its excellent electrical insulating properties. Its high resistance to electrical conductivity makes it an ideal material for use in capacitors, transistors, and other electronic components.
Used in Ceramics Industry:
Beryllium Silicate is used as a raw material in the ceramics industry for its high thermal stability and resistance to chemical attack. It is often used in the production of high-temperature resistant ceramics, such as those used in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Used in Gemstone Industry:
Beryllium Silicate, in its gemstone form known as Phenacite, is used as a gemstone for its unique color and brilliance. It is highly valued for its rarity and is often sought after by collectors and gem enthusiasts.
Used in Research and Development:
Beryllium Silicate is used in research and development for its unique structural and chemical properties. Scientists and researchers study its structure to gain insights into the behavior of other materials with similar structures, leading to the development of new materials and technologies.

Safety Profile

Confirmed carcinogen with experimental carcinogenic and tumorigenic data. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of BeO See also BERYLLIUM COMPOUNDS and SILICATES.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 15191-85-2 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,5,1,9 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 5 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 15191-85:
(7*1)+(6*5)+(5*1)+(4*9)+(3*1)+(2*8)+(1*5)=102
102 % 10 = 2
So 15191-85-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
