Usage

Description

Arcitumomab, also known as CEA-Scan, is a murine monoclonal Fab’ fragment of IMMU-4, an antibody generated in murine ascites fluid. It is a protein, specifically a murine Ig Fab fragment from IgG1, used for chemical labeling with Tc-99m. Arcitumomab reacts with carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a tumor-associated antigen whose expression is increased in various carcinomas, particularly those of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

Uses

Used in Diagnostic Imaging:
Arcitumomab is used as a monoclonal antibody for detecting the presence, location, and extent of recurrent or metastatic colorectal carcinoma involving the liver, extrahepatic abdomen, and pelvis, with a histologically confirmed diagnosis. It binds to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), whose expression is increased in carcinoma. Arcitumomab/Tc-99m is injected, and the radionuclide scan is read 2 to 5 hours later.
Used in Cancer Detection:
Arcitumomab is used as a diagnostic tool for identifying the presence of CEA-expressing tumors in the GI tract and other affected areas. This helps in the early detection and monitoring of cancer progression, allowing for more effective treatment planning and management.
