Two triterpenoid saponins obtained from the leaves of Pittosporum undulatum were characterized on the basis of chemical and spectral evidence as a mixture of 22-O-(2-methylbutyloyl)- and 22-O-(3,3-dimethylacryloyl)-A1-barrigenol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)- 3)>-β-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid and 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)- 3)- 4)>>-β-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid. The sugar moieties are the novel oligosaccharides found in A1-barrigenol glycosides.Key Word Index - Pittosporum undulatum; Pittosporaceae; triterpenoid saponin; deacylsaponin; A1-barrigenol 3-O-glycosides.
