Treatment of HW2(CO)7(THF)2(NO) with PtBu3 gives HW2(CO)8(PtBu3)(NO) (1), [HPtPBu3][HW2(CO)10] (2), and [HPtPBu3][(μ-H)2W3(CO) 13(NO)] (3). The anion (μ-H)2W3(CO)13(NO)-(3 -) could be more conveniently prepared and isolated as [PPN][μ-H)2W3(CO)13(NO)] (4) from the reaction of HW2(CO)9(NO) with [PPN]-[HW(CO)5] (PPN+ = (Ph3P)2N+). Complex 3 reacts with a nucleophile L to form [HPtBu3][(μ-H)2W3(CO) 12-(L)(NO)] (5, L = PMe3; 6, L = PPh3; 7, L = P(OEt)3; 8, L = MeNC). Crystal data for 5: C27H37NO13P2W3; Cc (monoclinic); a = 19.275(5), b = 31.730(4), c = 12.948(2) A?; β = 91.22(2)°; Z = 8; R = 0.030, Rw = 0.030.
