15851-40-8 Usage

Description

Strontium tellurite (SrTeO3) is a metatellurite compound with a molecular weight of 215.6761 g/mol and a monohydrate form in solution chemistry. It possesses ferroelectric properties, meaning it exhibits permanent electric polarization that varies with the applied electric field. The crystal structure of strontium tellurite consists of three types of distorted [SrOx] polyhedra that share their oxygen anions with TeO3 pyramidal units, forming two types of tunnels for the electron lone pairs of the Te4+ cation.

Uses

Used in Ferroelectric Applications:
Strontium tellurite is used as a ferroelectric material for its ability to exhibit permanent electric polarization that varies with the applied electric field. This property makes it suitable for applications in electronic devices and sensors.
Used in Crystal Chemistry and Phase Transitions Research:
Strontium tellurite is used as a subject of study in crystal chemistry and phase transitions research. Its structural properties and phase transition behavior at different temperatures provide valuable insights into the behavior of similar compounds and their potential applications.
Used in Nonlinear Optical Measurements:
Strontium tellurite is used in nonlinear optical measurements due to its noncentrosymmetric crystal structure, which has been confirmed by the second harmonic generation (SHG) test. This property makes it useful for applications in optical devices and systems.
Used in Solid-state Reactions:
Strontium tellurite is used as a product in solid-state reactions, where it can be formed by reacting SrO, TeO2, and heat. This method is useful for producing strontium tellurite in an inert atmosphere.
Used in Solution Chemistry:
In solution chemistry, strontium tellurite is used to form a monohydrate when reacting SrCl2 with Na2TeO3 or tellurium dichloride in a solution of strontium chloride. This method is useful for preparing strontium tellurite in a monohydrate form for various applications.

Preparation

Aluminate sodalites containing the telluride and tellurite ions have been synthesized for the first time. The structures of Sr8[AlO2]12(TeO3)2 and its reduced product Sr[AlO2]12Te2 have been determined using Rietveld refinement of powder neutron-diffraction (PND) data. In Sr8[AlO2]12Te2, the anion occupies a position at the sodalite cage center, while in Sr8[AlO2]12(TeO3)2 the larger tellurite ion is displaced to allow reasonable coordination to the strontium ions. Sr1-x PbxTeO3 (0 < x < 0.2) and Sr1-xLa2xTe1+2xO3+6x (0 < x < 0.15) solid solutions are synthesized (the latter, for the first time), and their properties are studied. The results demonstrate that partial substitutions of Pb and La for Sr extend the temperature stability range of ferroelectric SrTeO3. Although a number of research papers have been published, its usage in industry is miniscule. It is, however, available commercially by several manufacturers.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 15851-40-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,5,8,5 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 15851-40:
(7*1)+(6*5)+(5*8)+(4*5)+(3*1)+(2*4)+(1*0)=108
108 % 10 = 8
So 15851-40-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
