Mononuclear zinc(n), homodinuclear zinc(n) and heterodinuclear zinc(n)-copper(ii) complexes derived from tris[(2-pyridyl)methyl]amine (L) have been prepared and characterised. The crystal structures of two mononuclear complexes, [ZnL(Cl)][BPh4]-MeCN and [ZnL(O2CPh)][BPh4] show that the co-ordination geometries around the zinc are close to trigonal bipyramidal and that of the heterodinuclear complex [ZnCuL2(p-O2NC6H4OPOj][BPh 4]2·H2O shows that the metal atoms are separated by 5.86 A and bridged by a phosphate monoester.
