Solvent-free Phase Transfer Catalysis. Improvements on serine O-alkylation

An efficient method of preparing O-alkyl serine methyl esters using solvent-free Phase Transfer Catalysis is described. This technique affords high reaction yields with both activated and non-activated alkyl halides, and no racemization is observed. The one-step procedure can be used to advantage over the usual two-step (allylation-hydrogenation) method. Springer-Verlag Iberica 1997.
