5-Oxodihydroisoxazoles react with thiocarbonyl chlorides to afford N-thioacylisoxazol-5(2H)-ones which lose carbon dioxide under photochemical conditions and undergo intramolecular cyclisation of the iminocarbene to afford thiazoles.
