20109-59-5 Usage

General Description

Sodium perfluoroheptanoate is a synthetic chemical compound with the molecular formula C7F15COONa. It is a member of the perfluoroalkyl carboxylates family, which are often used as surfactants in various industrial and consumer products. Sodium perfluoroheptanoate is commonly utilized as a wetting agent, dispersant, and as a surface tension modifier in applications such as coatings, adhesives, and cleaning products. Its fluorinated structure provides excellent oil and water repellent properties, making it particularly useful in the production of hydrophobic and oleophobic materials. However, there has been growing concern over the potential environmental and health impacts of perfluoroalkyl substances, including sodium perfluoroheptanoate, leading to stricter regulations and efforts to find more sustainable alternatives.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 20109-59-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 2,0,1,0 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 20109-59:
(7*2)+(6*0)+(5*1)+(4*0)+(3*9)+(2*5)+(1*9)=65
65 % 10 = 5
So 20109-59-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

A NEW METHOD FOR THE PREPARATION OF PERFLUOROCARBOXYLIC ACIDS

Huang, Bing-Nan,Haas, A.,Lieb, M.

, p. 49 - 62 (1987)

The reaction of both primary perfluoroalkyl iodides and bromides containing 3-12 carbon atoms with a rongalite-NaHCO3 reagent in aqueous dipolar aprotic solvents, such as DMF or DMSO, has been investigated. The reaction gave sodium perfluorocarboxylates in 51-86percent yields, and these were transformed to the respective perfluorocarboxylic acids by treatment with sulfuric acid. This provides a new method for the synthesis of perfluorocarboxylic acids.
