The main application of Scandium by weight is in Scandium-Aluminium alloys for minor aerospace industry components. Dentists use Erbium, Chromium: Yttrium-Scandium-Gallium Garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) lasers for cavity preparation and in endodontics.
2. Scandium(III) chloride hexahydrate, which is freely soluble in water is used as a source for producing metallic scandium by electrolysis. It finds use in halide lamps, optical fibers, electronic ceramics and lasers.
