Usage

General Description

Angiotensinogen is a glycoprotein produced in the liver and is the precursor to angiotensin, a peptide hormone that plays a key role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance. Angiotensinogen is cleaved by renin, an enzyme produced by the kidneys, to form angiotensin I, which is then converted to angiotensin II by angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that stimulates the release of aldosterone and increases sodium reabsorption in the kidneys, leading to an increase in blood pressure and fluid retention. Additionally, angiotensin II has pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic effects, contributing to the development of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, angiotensinogen and the renin-angiotensin system are important targets for the treatment of hypertension and other cardiovascular conditions.
