The complex Ir2(CO)2Cl2{μ-Ph2P)2py}2, which was synthesized from [Ir(cod)Cl]2 and (Ph2P)2py [(Ph2P)2py=2,6-bis(diphenylphosphino)pyridine)], reacted with [Cu(MeCN4)](ClO4) to form the heterotrinuclear complex [Ir2Cu(CO)2Cl2(MeCN){μ-(Ph2P)2py}2](ClO4), whose structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography.
