New 5-alkyl-2-[4-(2-haloalkanoyloxy)phenyl]-1,3-dioxanes were synthesized. Pure trans isomers of these compounds were isolated, whose structure was confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Factors influencing mesogenic properties of the products are discussed.
