Description

N-Methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (MSTFA) is a versatile derivatizing reagent used in various applications, including pharmaceuticals and chemical analysis. It is a clear colorless to light yellow liquid and can be used as an alternative to diazomethane. MSTFA is an N-silyl compound in which the amide nitrogen of N-methyltrifluoroacetamide is replaced by a trimethylsilyl group.

N-Methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate for the synthesis of various drugs and compounds.
Used in Metabolite Analysis:
MSTFA is used as a metabolite of Famprofazone in humans, aiding in the study and analysis of drug metabolism.
Used in Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) Analysis:
N-Methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide is used as a silylating reagent that forms volatile derivatives for GC-MS analysis, enhancing the detection and identification of various compounds.

Purification Methods

Fractionate the amide through a 40mm Vigreux column (p 11). Usually it contains ca 1% of methyl trifluoroacetamide and 1% of other impurities which can be removed by gas chromatography or fractionating using a spinning band column. The present invention relates to a synthesis method of N-methyl-N-trimethylsilyl trifluoroacetamide (MSTFA), MSTFA synthesized thereby and an electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery including the same. The present invention comprises the steps of: preparing N-methyltrifluoroacetamide by using ethyltrifluoroacetate and methylamine; and obtaining MSTFA by separating and removing a precipitate from a reaction mixture obtained by introducing trimethylsilyl chloride to a mixture of N-methyltrifluoroacetamide and triethylamine. According to the present invention, since BSA (N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)acetamide) is not used, it is relatively easy to remove a starting material and a side reaction material which are not reacted by fractional distillation. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a high-purity MSTFA of 99.0% or more and if the high-purity MSTFA of 99.0% or more is used as an additive of an electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery, it is possible to improve lifespan characteristics of a lithium secondary battery.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
