Description

Disperse Blue 1 is a blue-black microcrystalline powder that is an anthraquinone dye. It is soluble in acetone, ethanol, and slightly soluble in benzene and linseed oil. The dye exhibits properties such as ironing fastness, light fastness, perspiration fastness, and washing fastness, with ratings ranging from 4 to 5 according to ISO standards.

Uses

Used in Textile Industry:
Disperse Blue 1 is used as a textile disperse dye for coloring nylon, cellulose acetate and triacetate, polyester, and acrylate fibers. It is also used for surface dyeing of thermoplastics and as a solvent dye in cellulose acetate plastics.
Used in Hair Coloring:
Disperse Blue 1 is used in hair-color formulations, particularly in semi-permanent hair colors, at concentrations of less than 1%.
Used in Personal Care Products:
Disperse Blue 1 is also used in some personal-care products such as hair mousse and toothpaste.
Used in Fur and Sheepskin Dyeing:
The dye is utilized for coloring fur and sheepskins, providing a vibrant blue hue to these materials.

Reactivity Profile

An amine. Amines are chemical bases. They neutralize acids to form salts plus water. These acid-base reactions are exothermic. The amount of heat that is evolved per mole of amine in a neutralization is largely independent of the strength of the amine as a base. Amines may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen is generated by amines in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides.

Health Hazard

ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: When heated to decomposition DISPERSE BLUE 1 emits toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides.

Fire Hazard

Flash point data for DISPERSE BLUE 1 are not available; however, DISPERSE BLUE 1 is probably combustible.

Safety Profile

Confirmed carcinogen with experimental carcinogenic data. Experimental reproductive effects. Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx.

Carcinogenicity

Disperse blue 1 is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen based on (1) sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity from studies in experimental animals and (2) the fact that it belongs to a welldefined, structurally related class of anthraquinones whose membersare listed in the Report on Carcinogens as reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens.

The present invention relates to a method for dyeing keratinous fibers, characterized in that the following are applied to the fibers: a) a composition (A) containing, in a medium appropriate for dyeing, at least one monohydroxyindole or dihydroxyindole, this application being preceded or followed by the application of b) a composition (B) containing, in a medium appropriate for dyeing, at least one aromatic carbonyl derivative chosen from hydroxyacetophenones, hydroxybenzophenones, 2-hydroxy-1,4-benzoquinones, hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinones,amino-1,4-naphthoquinones,hydroxy-9,10-anthraquinones and amino-9,10-anthraquinones. It also relates to the dyeing agents for carrying it out.
