2498-76-2 Usage
Description
2-Methylbenz(a)anthracene is a monomethylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) known for its carcinogenic properties. It is a chemical compound with a complex ring structure, consisting of multiple fused benzene rings with a methyl group attached at the second position.
Uses
Used in Research and Development:
2-Methylbenz(a)anthracene is used as a research chemical for studying the effects of carcinogens on biological systems. Its carcinogenic activity makes it a valuable tool in understanding the mechanisms of cancer development and the potential for developing new treatments or preventive measures.
Used in Environmental Monitoring:
Due to its carcinogenic nature, 2-methylbenz(a)anthracene is also used in environmental monitoring to detect the presence of PAHs in air, water, and soil samples. This helps in assessing the level of pollution and potential health risks associated with exposure to these harmful compounds.
Used in Industrial Applications:
Although its primary use is in research and environmental monitoring, 2-methylbenz(a)anthracene may also find applications in certain industrial processes where PAHs are used as additives or intermediates in the synthesis of various chemicals. However, due to its carcinogenic properties, its use in these applications is likely to be limited and strictly regulated.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 2498-76-2 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 2,4,9 and 8 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 2498-76:
(6*2)+(5*4)+(4*9)+(3*8)+(2*7)+(1*6)=112
112 % 10 = 2
So 2498-76-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Construction of Phenanthrenes and Chrysenes from β-Bromovinylarenes via Aryne Diels-Alder Reaction/Aromatization

, p. 14161 - 14167 (2019/10/28)
A highly efficient transition-metal-free general method for the synthesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons like phenanthrenes and chrysenes (and tetraphene) from β-bromovinylarenes and arynes has been developed. The reactions proceed via an aryne Diels-Alder (ADA) reaction, followed by a facile aromatization. This is the first report on direct construction of chrysenes (and tetraphene) using the ADA approach. Unlike the literature method which is limited to only 9/10-substituted derivatives, this method gives access to a wide variety of functionalized phenanthrenes.
